Middlesbrough’s £200m RiversideOne development will feature as a world class British example of a low carbon regeneration project when it is presented at the Shanghai World Expo in China on August 18, 2010.
The theme of the Expo is ‘Better City – Better life’ and it has attracted delegates from over 190 countries and 50 international organisations. Around 100 million people are expected to visit the Expo which started in May and will finish in October this year.
Pete Halsall, managing director of RiversideOne developer BioRegional Quintain, will speak to an audience of private companies, public sector bodies, universities and research organisations at the Expo. His visit has been part funded by regional development agency, One North East.
Pete’s talk will focus on RiversideOne’s sustainable masterplanning, construction and design processes and how this innovative approach to creating built environments will deliver the UK’s largest zero carbon development.
Pete commented: “I am very pleased to have been asked to speak about RiversideOne at the Expo as it provides a great opportunity to focus global attention on what is being undertaken in Middlesbrough.
“RiversideOne is regarded as one of the world’s most exciting and interesting regeneration projects because it combines a clear understanding of people’s needs with the latest sustainable building design technology delivered with minimal environmental impact.
“The Shanghai World Expo will enable us to further enhance the town’s profile. Coming relatively soon after the announcement of the Temenos sculpture which captured headlines around the world, we feel it provides another platform for influential people and organisations to really take notice of what is happening in Middlesbrough.”
Construction is well underway on the first residential building at RiversideOne which is called CIAC (Community in a Cube). A tower crane at the site, clearly visible on the Middlesbrough skyline, is evidence of the ongoing progress at RiversideOne. Prices for properties in CIAC range from £79,995 to £199,000 and, once complete, the building will be eight storeys high and comprise 80 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments.
CIAC’s location also provides the majority of those apartments facing the dock with clear views of Temenos, the first installation of sculptor Anish Kapoor’s Tees Valley Giants, which is an awe-inspiring 110m in length and almost 50m high.
Many of those who purchase apartments will also benefit from stunning views of the hills surrounding Middlesbrough and it is anticipated people will be able to move in to CIAC during the summer of 2011.
