Homebuyers thinking of purchasing a property at the visionary £200m RiversideOne development at Middlehaven, Middlesbrough, now have an even greater reason to own an apartment there – unrestricted access to superb views of one of the world’s most impressive art installations.
A significant number of the 80 apartments now available in the eight storey CIAC (Community in a Cube) building at RiversideOne will provide elevated panoramic views of Temenos, the first installation in the Tees Valley Giants public art initiative. It will cost £2.7m and will be an awe-inspiring 110m in length and almost 50m high.
Launched by Tees Valley Regeneration, Tees Valley Giants will be a series of five world-class art installations by internationally acclaimed sculptor Anish Kapoor and leading structural designer Cecil Balmond. The artist and engineer are known for the huge scale of their work and are two of the most sought after names in the art world. Their works can be seen in prominent locations around the globe including New York, Chicago and Beijing.
Helen Devy is head of residential sales and marketing at BioRegional Quintain, the sustainable community developer that will deliver RiversideOne. “We have always spoken about our intention to create a vibrant new district of Middlesbrough in which to live, work and relax,” she said. “The arrival of Temenos at RiversideOne will add another perspective to the development which will provide residents and visitors with an experience and views unlike any other.
“To have open access to an installation of this calibre, which complements our own public arts strategy, is further evidence of the progressive, exciting destination that we are creating at RiversideOne.”
Priced from £94,999, the properties released for sale at CIAC comprise a selection of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. With those on the north and east sides of the building providing clear views of the proposed Temenos site at the north east corner of Middlehaven Docks, it is anticipated that they will prove extremely popular with buyers.
Godfrey Worsdale, director of Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA), commented: “MIMA is delighted that a work of such ambition and an artist of such importance are being brought to Middlesbrough. The commission will be a great driver for the RiversideOne development and the whole of the Middlehaven project."
Temenos is funded by government initiative The Northern Way, Regional Development Agency One NorthEast, the Arts Council England, the Northern Rock Foundation, Middlesbrough Football Club and BioRegional Quintain. A planning application for Temenos will be submitted to Middlesbrough Council shortly. Sculptures will also be installed at Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington and Redcar and Cleveland adding up to the biggest public art project anywhere in the world.
Every apartment within CIAC features a fully fitted contemporary kitchen available in a range of colours and styles. In line with developer BioRegional Quintain’s sustainable principles the kitchens also feature integrated energy efficient appliances.
The majority of two bedroom apartments benefit from an en suite, whilst the bathrooms in the homes include fittings designed to deliver water efficiency. The apartments also have central heating with a fresh air ventilation and heat recovery system to reduce fuel costs.
CIAC has 12 apartment types which are each named after a pioneering modern artist - such as Rodin, Hepworth and Popova - in a move which reflects the overall vibrancy and visionary design of RiversideOne.
RiversideOne is situated close to Middlesbrough Football Club, off Windward Way, and provides fast access to the A66 and A19. People interested in purchasing an apartment at RiversideOne should visit the marketing suite 10am-5.30pm, Thursday to Monday, or contact the sales team on 01642 244490.
